VRSA breakwater to be repaired before it is swept away

vsrashellfishStorm damage has left the breakwater at Vila Real de Santo António in a poor state, especially the end section and contractors now have 3.5 months to carry extensive repairs before winter storms makes things worse.

The €500,000 spend will fix the existing breaks in the structure before further damage.

According to a statement from the Ministry of the Sea, "the objective of the project is to reinforce the outer layer of the existing structure, as well as repair the beacon installed there, to improve the structural stability of the breakwater and navigation."

The contract has a term of execution of 3.5 months, beginning immediately and is expected to be completed before the end of this year.

Quoting Peter Booker:
Storm damage? Presumably from last winter´s storms. So they have left it long enough that it has become urgent?

This is how it works. "Prevention" is low priority, "Urgent" get the money flowing, even if it is double or more the former. It doesn't just happen here.
