Parchal's BPM festival - 300% increase in drug arrests

bpmfestivalThe lively BPM festival at the Arade Congress Center in Parchal proved a fertile venue for drug busts with the authorities detaining 62 people over the three day event.

"Between September 21st and 24th, the GNR from Silves detained 62 people in the Lagoa and Portimão area, seizing 4,066 drugs at the BPM Festival.

The GNR communiqué states that its personnel carried out enforcement actions to prevent "criminal offences and to ensure the safety of visitors to the event."
 
Of the arrests, 53 were for trafficking in narcotics, six were for drunk driving and one was for driving without a license.
 
The drug haul was impressive in quantity and variety with MDMA, amphetamines, cocaine, hashish, heroin and cannabis seized.
 
The detainees, aged between 21 and 34 years, were accused and allowed free, pending their day in court.

Last year's festival saw 19 drug related arrests. Cocaine, MDMA and amphetamines were seized.
