In the Algarve, three luxury hotels and one golf course were distinguished in the 15th Publituris Portugal Travel Awards, at a ceremony on September 21st at Troia.
These ‘tourism Oscars’ were awarded to Vila Vita Parc in Lagoa (pictured) as ‘Best Resort,’ Salgados Palm Village near Galé in Albufeira (pictured below) as ‘Best Family Resort Hotel’ and Vila Joya, also in Galé, as ‘Best Beach Hotel’ in Portugal.
The Algarve won the ‘Best Golf Course’ category with Onyria Palmares Beach & Golf Resort in Lagos making it seven straight wins for the region.
"It is with satisfaction that the hospitality industry in Algarve is once again distinguished by the excellence of its offer, by professionals in the industry who have evaluated and rewarded the best that the tourism industry has to offer in Portugal.
“It is also with pride that the Algarve stands out once again as the best national golf destination, hosting the best golf course in the country," said the new president of the Algarve tourism body, João Fernandes.
The votes came from subscribers of the Publituris newspaper newsletter (40%) and votes from a jury (60%) made up of luminaries such as Luís Araújo, president of Turismo de Portugal, Raúl Martins, Pedro Costa Ferreira, the president of the Portuguese Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies, Jorge Rebelo de Almeida, president of the Vila Galé group and Frederico Costa from Pousadas de Portugal.
