Albufeira, Alcoutim and Loulé Councils in the running for national 'Council of the Year' award

alcoutimAlbufeira, Alcoutim and Loulé Councils have reached the short list in the Municipalities of the Year Awards - 2018, due to take place on 16 November in Guimarães.

This competition "aims to recognise the good practices of Council projects that have had a positive impact on the area, the economy and society by promoting growth, inclusion and sustainability.”

The municipality of Albufeira shone due to its Elderly Working Group project, Alcoutim earned wide approval for its Contraband Festival and Loulé already has been praised for its exhibition ‘LOULÉ. Territories Memoirs Identities.’

The organisation of the ‘Municipalities of the Year Awards - Portugal 2018’ is handled by the University of Minho to Guimarães Council.

The 2014 winner was Lisbon’s ‘Há Vida na Mouraria’ project, in 2015 the Algarve’s Vila do Bispo Council won after submitting its ‘Bird Watching & Nature Activities’ project, (HERE)  in 2016 Fundão won with ‘Academias de Código’ and last year the top award was won by Guimarães Council for its ‘Pay-as-You-Throw’ project in the city’s historic centre.

This fifth edition approved 56 applications from 35 Councils. There are nine categories and an overall prize for the best Council of 2018.
