Portugal's Finance Minister says Brexit is "a chaos"

brexitLenBrexit is a chaos that does not help anyone," says Portugal’s Finance Minister, adding that a second referendum is essential and that the UK must stay part of the European Union, for everyone's benefit.

Mário Centeno, who also heads the Eurogroup of member states’ finance ministers, hopes the UK stays, an outcome, “which will benefit the EU and the UK.”

Centeno, interviewed on TSF, added that the United Kingdom's departure from the European Union is the main headache for Portugal’s foreign policy.

"In order to make a decision, you have to have all the information and I do not think that all the information was given,” said the politician, adding that even if  a second referendum is the same, at least people will have voted when in possession of the facts.

Good luck to the UK as she sets sail into the unknown, I feel more than happy to live here in wonderful sunny Portugal that remains within the European union.

It is a shame that there are so many derogatory comments on this page relating to UK and Brexit. Look, the bottom line is Democracy took hold, Parliament voted on and for and held a Referendum which resulted in the People declaring they wanted to leave the EU. That is Democracy. The people wanted to control and govern their own laws and courts, control immigration (since Merkel and her open doors policy) has cost the British tax payer an absolute fortune, one which they can ill afford when faced with their own financial problems and constraints within the UK. Namely the NHS, Social Care, Unemployed etc etc. Look at the bureacracy of the EU, why should the UK (2nd biggest net contributor) fund the EU and its spending policies and prop up the other countries who do not contribute anything like the UK. These are all reasons why the Uk voted to leave, not forgetting the AFP of course, where since in the EU the UK has had many fishermen go out of business as a result of the EU Fisheries Policies. Hopefully, with an own Coastal Fisheries Policy many of those will again go back into business. There are too many noses in the EU trough who will take as long as the money is pouring in. Sorry, only my opinion such that it is

Some of my best friends are remainers and we do get involved in vigorous discussions but as yet we have never traded insults. Basically what happened is that we had a referendum and all the major political parties advised us to vote for the status quo and the British people who have seen enough of these self serving politicians to know that the interest of the UK means their interests so the people , quite sensibly spoke and the vote came out as it did. It was in my opinion a vote against politicians as much as the EU. Unfortunately since the vote someone thought up the idea of a "divorce bill" which wasn't mentioned before the referendum and then the politicians who were supposed to be dealing with Brexit were all committed remainers and so we are where we are. Mrs May is a prime example of someone who is only interested in herself: she had a comfortable majority in a fixed term parliament and called for a snap election and the rest is history. We also have a governor of the Bank of England who in the words of a certain Scots undertaker thinks that " we are all doomed" Interesting times ahead I think.

Quoting Peter Booker:
In his recent comments, nogin has referred to muppets (defined in the dictionary as foolish people) in both Brussels and Westminster. Does he mean the muppets who used the slogan Take Back Control before The Referendum? Which politicians are not muppets, I wonder.

HMM.
For myself Peter Politics attracts Muppets (x3). Sad that it is, they Promise much and deliver sweet F.A. The Brit Exit process has brought to light how in effective they really are. The only politicians in recent times who have my respect are languishing in Spanish and Catalan Prisons or in exile due to being honest and delivering on there promise .. It seems Democracy in the EU isn't doing to well.. :-*

I would like to think your right jack, but the muppets at Westminster are showing more reverse gears than an Italian tank.. Democracy is a lovely idea, Lets see if the vote was worth the paper it was printed on.. :-*

Is it possible for "Brexiters" to express a point of view without insulting someone?

Hmm.

RE: comment #15 by Ed,

The comment below illustrates the complexities of Britain, when you have modern day society harking back to the dark ages for songs that include words of "hate speech" toward their fellow countryman, such as ""rebellious Scots to crush"
How sad the words below are...when you think of how dividend Britain is today.

The last verse of God Save the King:

"Lord grant that Marshal Wade
May by thy mighty aid
Victory bring
May he sedition hush
And like a torrent rush
Rebellious Scots to crush
God save the King"

Chip,
The European Court of Justice which I think you are referring to, is designed to to give European citizens the right to appeal the decision of the High Court of their own country.
This is is beneficial for the citizen, but not necessarily for the home country's Court. So how can the ECJ be negative for UK citizens as the ECJ is protesting the rights of all EU citizens.
