Pre-Brexit Brits swell Algarve's hotels in December

brisasolhotelThe Algarve's hotels and registered guest houses logged a 9.3% increase in British visitors last December, compared to the same period of 2017.

The regional hoteliers’ association said this is a positive sign for the sector, as it has been the British that have been depressing the figures throughout 2018.

Another significant figure for the hoteliers has been the prices they have been able to charge, up 11.2% during the month. This growth is higher than the average room occupancy which was just 34% in December.

As for visitors, the shining stars remain the Germans, up 10.2%, followed by the French, up 18.5% in December. The number of Dutch visitors staying in hotels fell by a concerning 18.8%.

Criticism in itself should not be criticised, even though this seems like a contradiction.

Unless the criticism uses lies to show a false narrative.
Just because Maxwell has been treated unfairly by Portuguese doesn't mean that the majority of Brits are. Perhaps Maxwell needs ask himself why he views Portugal in such a negative way.

Ed,
There is a difference in being critical and fair.... and
Critical and arrogant and maxwell and the likes, never seems to miss a chance to be arrogant against Portugal and it's people.
It may be a good idea if they could try to be less aggressive and more passive toward their hosts.

I agree totally

I am surprised by the frequent criticism that Brits living in Portugal express regarding their hosts. Frankly, if you think so little of the Portuguese, why don't you go home?
Personally, I have no historic grievance with the British. My grievance is with the typical British tourist who lands in Albufeira looking for cheap beer and "singing" until all hours of the night.

Criticism in itself should not be criticised, even though this seems like a contradiction.

If people do not complain and point out things that have gone wrong, nothing changes and people can not find warnings to heed. Sometimes the criticism becomes boorish and repetitive but generally, it hits the spot.

This website frequently is critical of things that I see as unfair, illogical, unjust and simply foolish.

These figures are highly suspect as they are by Portuguese about the British and intended to be megaphoned in trade publications. We must keep educating Brits back home to chose different destinations and spend their earnings elsewhere. Where they will be appreciated for being British holidaymakers not just seen as idiots with bulging wallets that - to get even for historic grievances - need to be lightened!
