Lagos Police down to one car

gnrpatrolDistrict Command says that the un-roadworthy cars in the fleet will be repaired as soon as possible, but for now the lone patrol vehicle is all there is to deter and respond to crime, plus two bikes.

"One of the patrol cars is smoking, it has been for ages, and our officers refuse to drive it. The other two have faults that render them illegal to drive," said a police source, who requested anonymity when questioned by the national media today.

These are small problems but "enough not to be able to drive the cars," he added.

The District Command clarified that one vehicle that is under repair was temporarily replaced by another. With regard to a damaged vehicle, the situation was reported during the morning and settled in the afternoon. As for the third car with a fault, this does not stop officers driving it, but it will be repaired as soon as possible.

The Troika have been encouraging combining all these Portuguese police forces several reviews ago and cite countries like Austria that achieved such a combination of rural military police (GNR), PJ and PSP town police without stress.
Aiming to be more effective, simplify enquiries, cheaper and exchange best practice etc.
But then this would impact on and limit the Portuguese elite's misbehaviour so ... will be fought to the last.

How about them borrowing a couple of cars from the GNR?

If they can't issue them with new cars perhaps they can manage new brains.
