Portimão Municipal Assembly has approved a motion that seeks the dismissal of regional health boss Pedro Nunes (pictured).
The council approved by a majority the motion put forward by the coalition 'Servir Portimão' (CDS-PP, PPM and MPT) which was seeking the dismissal of the chairman of the board of directors of the Hospitals of the Algarve, Dr Pedro Nunes.
In public statement, the coalition claims to have made this decision due to the "increasing degradation of the work environment" at the various units of the Hospitals of the Algarve, adding that the two petitions signed by hundreds doctors and medical staff were a pretty good indication that all was not well.
The coalition said that Pedro Nunes has been disrespectful towards health professionals and that the poor working environment was now common knowledge.
"Recent events have shown that Pedro Nunes, rather than being part of the solution for the problems of Hospital of the Algarve, is in fact a central part of the problem that affects the institution," concluded the party.
Portimão councillors agreed.
