Vila Real de Santo António and Loulé are in the running to win a top award in the Publituris Portugal Trade Awards 2014.
This is the second year running that Vila Real de Santo António has been short-listed in the Best Council Area for Tourism category. And alongside Loulé is up against stiff competition from Lisbon, Oporto, Braga, Sines, Loulé and Ourém.
The winner will be announced on March 12 at the Lisbon Tourism Fair and will have been judged against criteria that include innovativeness and communication, media visibility and any national and international awards received during the year 2013.
To Vila Real's credit is the successful Eurocidade Guadiana project, events such as its kids soccer competition and its well supported sports facilities.
The Publituris Portugal Trade Awards were first held in 2010 at the Lisbon Tourism Fair.
The nominees are voted for online between February 28 and March 7 which counts 40% towards the total points. The other 60% is decided by a panel of judges.
