Man arrested for EN125 hit and run - victim still in coma

A young man has been arrested for the EN125 hit and run incident last Friday, that resulted in a young woman being put into an induced coma at Faro Hospital.

Diana Valério, 21, suffered life-threatening injuries on the EN125 at Bias do Norte, Olhão after she was struck by a vehicle and thrown into a drainage ditch. She had been walking along the road to get a lift to work at Faro Airport on Friday, February 1st.

Luckily, at around 06:15 on the Friday morning, a group of youngster saw her rucksack at the side of the road and discovered her unconscious body in the ditch. They immediately called emergency services.

The driver has abandoned the vehicle, said to be owned by his father, and left the scene of the incident without offering any assistance or calling emergency services. He has been charged with a list of offences after, sensibly, handing himself in to the local GNR.

Diana Valério remains in an induced coma in the Intensive Care Unit of the Faro Hospital.
