Portugal’s Authority for Food and Economic Safety (ASAE) has busied itself inspecting 740 traders during the winter sales period which officially ended last Friday.
No doubt these hard-working ASAE officers were delighted to visit twice the number of shops than usual and spot 110 offenses being committed by dastardly retailers, up from a mere 632 last time.
King among the offenses was widespread disregard of the rules governing the announcement of official sales; but problems fixing prices to items, not saying there was a sale on and breaches in the rules for the sale of defective products were all pounced on with characteristic zeal.
