Faro Hospital's MRI scanner service ‘at risk’

mriscannerThe parliamentary group of the Left Bloc returned to question the government on the situation surrounding the MRI scanner service at Faro Hospital which they say is ‘at risk.’

The government has been asked this question before but as it declined to provide an answer within the stipulated 30 day period the Left Bloc again has asked when posing questions about the serious management failures at the Algarve Hospitals Group.

João Semedo and Cecília Honório, Left Bloquistas reporesenting the Algarve, warned in January 2014 that the MRO scanner service at Faro Hospital was at risk and at that time questioned the Health Minister on the operation of the service and demanded measures to rectify the situation.

The politicians explained that at Faro Hospital the MRI scanning service is being handled by a company, but since 2011 there have been several irregularities that have come to light due to non-payment for services and the lack of availability of professional staff to operate the machine.

According to the Left Bloc, the hospital administration "wants the MRI scanning service to continue to be provided by the company, but without a formal contract."

Given this situation, the BE claims that the company providing the service "can not guarantee its normal regular service."

The Left Bloc believe that this causes an unacceptable constraint on access to health care by the users of Faro Hospital, and the service could be withdrawn at any time by the company.
