Shiny new €20 million factory for Odiáxere

shellfishA €20 million factory officially is being opened on Friday, March 22nd in Odiáxere, Lagos, with the Minister of the Sea, Ana Paula Vitorino, the Secretary of State for Fisheries, José Apolinário and the Mayor of Lagos, Maria Joaquina Matos all jostling for media attention.

The factory’s advanced technology and processes will ensure frozen shellfish swiftly is available to domestic and foreign markets.

With the capacity to process 300 tonnes of fish per day and to store 5,400 tonnes of frozen fish, the Congelagos factory will market high quality fish and molluscs from mainland Portugal, Madeira and the Azores, in particular undervalued species, such as mackerel and horse mackerel.

The project will be the largest fish and shellfish freezing facility in the Iberian Peninsula, according to a statement from Capital SA. Battaglia Capital SA, an international investment group based in Lagos.

Originally from Lagos, Nuno Battaglia built his career in the United States of America, where he lived for 27 years.

Having fulfilled the American dream he returned to Portugal with the intention of investing in the city and the region that saw him grow.
