The body of a man was found on Tuesday morning, by a boat in the Ria Formosa in the Tavira area near the Salinas da Sopursal, according to the Maritime Authority.
On Monday night, the Tavira Maritime Police received a call at around 10:40 that a fisherman had fallen in the Ria Formosa near the pier at Santa Luzia.
The Maritime Authority says that the Police and the Lifeguard Station in Tavira were alerted and searches were carried out into the night to locate and rescue the man.
The Tavira Port Captain, Rui de Andrade, confirmed that the man fell to the Ria last night and that an alert was given to the authorities by fishermen, who realised what had happened.
Those nearby could do nothing to rescue the man due to the strong current.
The body was taken to the Center of Legal Medicine in Faro.
