The Lisbon-based pop star. Madonna, was refused permission to take a horse into a C19th palace for a music video shoot and has accused the Portuguese of being ungrateful.
Madonna, anyway due to leave Portugal’s Palacio Ramalhete for New York, has accused the Portuguese of being ungrateful over a row involving a horse.
Madonna moved to Portugal in 2017 and was due to film a video for the song ‘Indian Summer’ in Quinta Nova de Assunção in Sintra.
Sintra Camara allowed the pop star use of the palace from March 15 to 20 but would not allow a horse to enter the palace due to the damage it might cause the floors.
Madonna called her agent and complained about her treatment, saying she couldn’t wait and would film the video somewhere else.
“I’ve already given a lot to this country and when I ask for a simple favour, one which will present Portugal to the world, the answer I get is negative,” the petulant star told her agent, adding, “This is your fault. You convinced me to come live here.”
The pop icon’s attitude has incensed Portuguese authorities, which have reminded her of all the things they have done for her during her stay in the country.
For example, Lisbon Council gave her a cut price parking area, the soccer club S.L. Benfica welcomed her son so that he could practice regardless of his level; the international school Lycée Français Charles Lepierre accepted the singer’s twin girls even though there was a waiting list; and the Portuguese government fast-tracked her residency.
Not content with the five star treatment, many Portuguese will heave a sigh of relief when her flight tales off.
