After asking for a glass of water or information about the area, three men entered pensioners’ houses, assaulted and robbed them.
The trio have been operating in Faro and Olhão and were arrested on Monday, April 22, by the GNR.
According to the service, the investigation lasted for three months and concluded that the "suspects chose the most vulnerable victims" that were living in isolated houses.
Once inside the properties, the men searched for "gold articles and then sold them at specialist buying and selling establishments," explained the GNR.
The individuals are suspected of physically and violently assaulting five victims, aged between 69 and 79, and the GNR executed three search warrants, seized a vehicle, several gold items including earrings, bracelets and medals.
In Lagos, a 43-year-old man, suspected of raping, assaulting and threatening to kill his wife, has been remanded in custody on Monday.
This was the result of an investigation that began a week ago, reveals the GNR. The victim also was 43 years old.
Following reports, the GNR executed a warrant for the man’s arrest and to search his home where a knife was seized, the weapon used to stab the woman in her arm, and some ammunition.
