Fuel delivery strike averted

fillupThe union representing the drivers of dangerous loads, such as petrol and diesel, has reached an agreement that members' pay will rise by a possible maximum €1,400 a month and that Sunday will be a day off.

The drivers already are describing the deal as an, "historic agreement."

Another delivery strike was scheduled for May 23, which would again have disrupted the nation’s fuel supplies.

The union met government representatives and the employers' association, the National Association of Public Transport of Merchandise, and hammered out a deal.

The agreement includes wage progression and the ban on the distribution of dangerous deliveries on Sundays and public holidays.

Salaries will rise in January 2020, with a base rate of €1,400 per month and includes a special premium for drivers of dangerous goods, starting at €630, rising to €1,400.
