Faro Island campsite redevelopment gets the go-ahead

farobridgeFaro Council soon will be evicting the remaining occupants of the Faro Island camp site, before it is developed this coming September.

The tendering process has been completed, a contractor has been selected and the deal has been signed and given the green light by the Court of Auditors.

Rogério Bacalhau, Mayor of Faro, stated in an interview with Sul Informação, that "at the end of September or beginning of October, the work will begin. The users have already been notified and, in September, they will have to leave."

Although work is ready to start, the Council is holding back until the tourists go at the end of the summer season.

The goal is for the camping park to reopen in the summer of 2020 after a €450,000 development that includes renovation of the existing buildings and a new water supply system.

The new campsite will have 200 lots for tents, and 24 spaces for motor homes and will be run by the Council with zero participation of the old ‘users’ association.’

Quoting Maximillian:
The ultimate priority should be fixing of the dangerous bridge which connects mainland to Faro island. This all doesn't sound very responsible.

The bridge problem continues with the Council hoplessly inept at fixing the urgent problem:
