The Água de Monchique Society will discontinue their production and supply of Monchique Water to the market until early December, following a €7.8 million investment it is making in the refurbishment and modernization of the local plant in the Caldas de Monchique.
In December the company’s supply to the market will be resumed with the production of 5 litre bottles, which the company deems to be “fundamental” for the wellbeing of many Portuguese families. In early 2020, the remaining Monchique water products will be return to the market.
The production line shutdown is due to the need to replace the current bottling lines with new modernized alternatives, which will "enable the company to improve its performance and respond adequately to the market," explains the Água de Monchique Society.
According to Vitor Hugo Gonçalves, CEO of the water company, the project that is being implemented “is fundamental to the viability and future of the company. It will enable us to achieve the leadership of the Portuguese water market, strengthen the solidity of the company, increase our export capacity and grow our brand”.
Mr. Gonçalves also guarantees that "this break will allow us to return to the market with greater strength and greater geographical coverage, thus enabling us to respond to the demands of our consumers, always with the same quality and with the same dedication".
In March, during a visit by the Secretary of State for Economy to the company's premises in Caldas de Monchique, Mr. Gonçalves had stressed that “this investment will more than double production capacity. But more than that, what matters is that we have the possibility to give our consumers a higher quality product”.
The Água de Monchique society has been overseeing the Monchique public mineral water concession since December 16th, 1992. It has been distinguished for the second consecutive year with the status of PME Excellence, and it is currently one of the largest players in the national market.
The manufacturing and logistics facilities are located in Caldas de Monchique, in a protected area of over 50 hectares, where the preservation of aquifers is a critical factor, motivating the company to operate using sustainable environmental management logistics.
Monchique water is distinguished by its uniqueness in comparison to other waters, the result of a natural physicochemical composition which stands out, giving it a high natural pH of 9.5. This composition gives it unique characteristics that, for its benefits, contribute to the well-being and balance of the body, and a brackish taste.
