Faro Animal Collection Centre begins to take shape

Fotos D.R - FARO ANIMAL COLLECTION CENTRE BEGINS TO TAKE SHAPEThe structure of the future Official Animal Collection Centre (CROA) in Faro is already taking shape. The project, valued at 1,139,501 Euros, provides for a maximum capacity of 173 animals, including an area for adoption and another for quarantined animals.

According to the Câmara de Faro, "the centre will have 16 collection boxes for cats and a kennel area with 42 collection boxes, plus outdoor exercise areas and two play parks for animals, as well as administrative, veterinary treatment and medical areas".

At the start of building works earlier this month, Mayor Rogério Bacalhau referred to this achievement as “one of the most important achievements for all who, like us, value the dignity, health and welfare of animals” .

Awarded to the company Rui Vilaça Pinheiro, Lda, the project follows a guiding principle of respect and preservation of animal welfare and dignity followed by the Municipality of Faro, which has also been establishing partnerships with associations for the defense of animals and awareness campaigns against abandonment and abuse.

The Municipality of Faro has adopted measures, such as "the carrying out of capture, sterilisation and return projects with excellent results and, in addition, it was one of the first in the country to prohibit the performance of circus shows with animals in captivity and others events that imply animal suffering, which the municipality considers depressing and harmful towards animals".

The municipality have already assigned personnel to the Veterinary Service, hiring a new veterinarian, and acquiring a van suitable for the needs of the service, which will involve an investment of 23,000 Euros.
