Last night, the Albufeira GNR seized a bottle of nitrous oxide, known as "laughing gas", from an Albufeira nightclub.
Nitrous oxide is a prescription drug, used for sedation and pain relief by medical professionals. However, while patrolling the town, the police discovered several balloons scattered on the floor next to a nightlife establishment in Albufeira, and "immediately investigations were initiated to ascertain the origin of the balloons, since it is known that balloons are used to 'hold' nitrous oxide, enabling it to be inhaled by users wanting to feel 'high' ".
The establishment was inspected and a bottle of nitrous oxide was found inside, police suspect it was being used for inhalation by the users of the establishment. A man was also identified, given an administrative offense report and the gas cylinder was seized.
