Miguel Oliveira, the well-known and much loved Portuguese MotoGP champion, married his long term girlfriend and stepsister, Andreia Pimenta, this weekend and resorted to social media to express his happiness.
“This weekend we made the most important curve of our life. We seal our love through marriage and we want to share it with you”, wrote Oliveira, adding that “I feel happy and lucky to share life with my wife, who is my other half.”
The couple got engaged last year, having known each other since they was 13 years old. Andreia is the daughter of Oliveira's stepmother Cristina, who is married to his father, Paulo.
For 11 years the romance between the two was lived in secret, out of fear of some unpleasant reactions, until 2019 when they decided to go public. They had planned to get married last year, but that weekend Miguel had a MotoGP race and plans had to be postponed until this year.
