British man dies on Albufeira beach

BRITISH MAN DIES ON ALBUFEIRA BEACHA British man died of a cardio-respiratory arrest yesterday morning, after feeling unwell while exercising on the cliff top trail next to Praia dos Tomates, in Albufeira.

In a statement from the authorities it states that the 58 year old man "died this morning after apparently having suffered a fall while walking on a cliff in the area of Praia dos Tomates".
 
"Following the alert received at 9:17 am, by the Albufeira Voluntary Fire Service, informing that a person had fallen from a cliff area, the Albufeira Maritime Police Post were immediately activated. Members of the Albufeira Volunteer Fire Department and INEM were also present" says the official statement.
 
According to AMN (Autoridade Marítima Nacional), "the victim's body was located on the sand near the cliff, the INEM team began resuscitation but it was not possible to reverse the situation, so sadly death was declared on the spot" by the doctor from the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM).

The mans body was transported by the Albufeira Volunteer Fire Department to the Institute of Legal Medicine in Portimão.

A 17-year-old German man also suffered a fall from the cliff yesterday afternoon, at Algar Seco, Lagoa, fracturing his right lower leg.

The alert was received at 6:08 pm, through the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center ( MRCC Lisbon ), with the teams from the Ferragudo Life Saving Station and the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Portimao activated. The Lagoa Volunteer Firefighters and INEM also attended the site.

When they arrived at the scene, the Ferragudo Life-Saving team immobilised and rescued the victim, with the help of the Maritime Police, the Lagoa Bombeiros and INEM, and transported the young man by sea to Ferragudo pier.

The young man was later taken to the Hospital de Portimão, in a stable and conscious state, by an ambulance from the Lagoa Bombeiros Department.
