Over 65's flock to receive their Covid-19 booster jab

OVER 65'S FLOCK TO RECEIVE THEIR COVID-19 BOOSTER JABThis weekend in Portugal, nearly 45 thousand over 65's received their booster dose of the vaccine against Covid-19, bringing thet total to more than half a million booster doses administered, according to the General Directorate of Health.

“In order to speed up the vaccination process, the country's Vaccination Centres were open over the weekend, with a greater turnout being recorded on Saturday. Over the two days, at least 68,700 flu vaccines and 44,700 booster doses of the Covid-19 vaccine  were administered to people aged 65 years and over", says the Directorate-General (DGS) in a statement released today.

“Portugal has already administered more than half a million booster vaccinations against covid-19 and more than 1.1 million vaccines against the flu”.

The co-administration of flu vaccines and the booster dose of Covid vaccine has been underway since October 18th, firstly being administered to citizens aged 65 years or over, and to those with immunosuppression. Patients will receive a message via SMS, to attend their appointment.

However, the “open house” facility for people aged 80 and over “will be maintained throughout this week”, meaning the over 80's can attend at any time. The DGS advises users, before going to the vaccination centre in their area, to consult the respective opening hours at https://covid19.min-saude.pt/casa_aberta/.

In addition to the “open house” facility currently for the aged 80's and over, “local scheduling of an appointment is currently also available online for people over 70," with this facility gradually opening up to younger age groups over the coming weeks. If you are over 70, self-scheduling of your vaccination can be done at https://covid19.min-saude.pt/pedido-de-agendamento/.

In Portugal, since March 2020, 18,257 people have died and 1,107,488 cases of infection have been recorded, according to data from the General Directorate of Health.

The sheep may flock to take their experimental 'vaccinations', but will they regret it?
