The GNR received the alert around lunchtime on Tuesday about the disappearance of the elderly man, who suffered from Alzheimer's, and immediately launched a search in the area to locate him.

This search was supported by soldiers and civilians from the Territorial Detachment of Portimão, a search and rescue team from the Intervention Detachment (DI) from Faro, soldiers from the Emergency Protection and Relief Unit (UEPS) and the support of the Monchique Volunteer Firefighters and people.
