Bomb threat at Algarve Shopping

BOMB THREAT AT ALGARVE SHOPPINGThe bomb threat that occurred this Friday afternoon at Algarve Shopping, which led to the evacuation of about 300 people, was made by an employee of the shopping center, according to the Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã.

Algarve Shopping, in Guia, Albufeira, was evacuated last Friday afternoon due to a bomb threat. The alert was initially received by GNR via a phone call from an unidentified person, at 14:55.

“Following a phone call, reporting that there was a bomb inside the Algarve Shopping, the building was meanwhile evacuated and searches made the GNR explosives inactivation section”, said Major Abel Adriano, from the Public Relations of the Faro Territorial Command of the GNR.

About 300 people were evacuated from the shopping center, reported to be mostly workers.

The searches carried out by the GNR Explosives Inactivation Section resulted in no explosive device being found, and at around 17:15 pm the shopping center reopened.

The case is being investigated by the Judiciary Police, but the crime is thought to have been down to an employee. The crime can be punished with imprisonment for up to two years, or a fine.
