Photo by Avoz do AlgarveDemolition work to allow for the creation of a new road in the centre of Portimao has begun, resulting in traffic restrictions in place during the morning of Saturday, February 12th, at Rua Júdice Biker.

The demolition of the set of vacant houses located in the area between Largo do Dique and Jardim 1º de Dezembro, allows for the creation of a road corridor that will connect the riverside area of Portimão and Largo 1º de Dezembro, increasing the flow of traffic in this busy cenral area of the city.

The works will last until March, focusing exclusively on the demolition of the houses and the consequent preparation of the land for the construction of the new road artery, with sidewalks.

As a result of the work in progress, there will be restrictions on car traffic during the morning of next Saturday, February 12, at Rua Júdice Biker, through which road traffic leaving the city passes and which, for this reason, should remain interrupted for a few hours.

The current intervention is being monitored by an expert from the Museum of Portimão, due to the historical relevance that the area in question has in the evolution of the city over the centuries.

The houses now demolished, facing Rua Júdice Biker and Largo do Dique, were recently acquired by the Municipality of Portimão for 700,000 euros, and the completion of the work in progress will immediately provide a privileged window to the riverside area. , from the Municipal Theater of Portimão and Jardim 1º de Dezembro.
