Orange level weather warning in place for Saturday

ORANGE LEVEL WEATHER WARNING IN PLACE FOR SATURDAYThe Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) have warned that 10 districts on the mainland will be under orange warning on Saturday, due to the forecast of strong seas.

The warning covers the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, Lisbon, Setúbal, Beja and Faro, for the period between 00:00 and 18:00 on Saturday 19th February.

According to the IPMA, northwest waves of between 5 and 11 metres are expected..

Earlier, on Friday, the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria and Lisbon will be under yellow warning from 15:00, also due to the forecast of high waves of 4 to 5 metres from the northwest.

The orange warning is the second most serious and represents a moderate to high risk weather situation.

The yellow warning is issued by the IPMA whenever the weather situation represents a risk for certain activities.
