Faro council moves forward with 'housing at controlled costs' project

FARO COUNCIL MOVES FORWARD WITH 'HOUSING AT CONTROLLED COSTS' PROJECTThe Municipality of Faro have now opened the Casa Nova Faro store, within the scope of a program for the allocation of housing at controlled costs in Faro.

Within the scope of this project, a total of 90 dwellings under construction will be put out to tender (18 x T1, 38 x T2 and 34 x T3), aimed at different profiles of families, and which should be ready to move in to by the end of 2023.

Joint initiative of the Municipality and the Ferreira Build Power Group, responsible for the construction of these new homes, the Casa Nova space, operating since last Friday at Rua Lethes, n. 42/44, in downtown Faro, now allows interested parties to obtain all the necessary information about the homes, and helps to formalise the application.

Of the 90 apartments in two blocks already under construction in the Lejana de Baixo area, next to Estrada da Senhora da Saúde and Rua Capitães de Abril (parallel to Avenida Calouste Gulbenkian), 60%t will be allocated to young people up to 35 years of age, 20% to people with disabilities and the remaining 20% to the general contingent, which covers the rest of the population.

The dwellings applied for must be of a type appropriate to the composition of the household, in order to avoid situations of overoccupation or underoccupation.

All apartments will have balconies and parking and dimensions stipulated by the Institute for Housing and Urban Rehabilitation (IHRU). Housing prices vary between 104,750 euros, in the case of T1, and 216,250 euros, in the case of T3, costs well below market prices and also defined by the IHRU, which are around 2000 euros per square metre.

Citizens over 18 years of age may apply; national or foreign citizens as long as they have held a residence permit in Portugal for five years or more; residing in the municipality of Faro for two years or more, uninterruptedly, or for the last ten years, having resided in the municipality for at least five years; that no member of the household is the owner or holder of another urban property title or fraction intended for housing; all members of the household over 18 years of age must have their situation regularised before the Tax and Customs Authority and Social Security as well.

The application process, which will be duly announced in a public notice, should take place between the 1st of November and the 31st of December.

As part of the opening of the Casa Nova Faro store, the Mayor of Faro, Rogério Bacalhau, said he hoped “to have a lot of people competing in this process” and guaranteed that the Municipality “is already working to have more housing at controlled, affordable costs”.

“We are already developing a subdivision of 275 dwellings for housing at controlled costs in Estoi and in Braciais, we are building another subdivision which is already in the final phase, which will have a section of social housing for the Municipality to lease, with some complementary equipment, and elsewhere another 74 dwellings at controlled costs. At the same time, we are already reviewing the Local Housing Strategy, so that in the future we can have other opportunities”, concluded the mayor.
