Biometric Residency Cards: SEF clarify regarding the recent appointment farce

BIOMETRIC RESIDENCY CARDS: SEF CLARIFY REGARDING THE RECENT APPOINTMENT FARCEFollowing the recent confusion regarding the appointment system for the Withdrawal Agreement residence document, meaning only appointments in Lisbon were available to some Algarve residents, SEF have clarified the situation.

Once you have obtained the QR code, registering your intention to obtain the new residence document, you do not need to take further action until you receive an email from SEF asking you to make an appointment for biometric data collection.

When you receive your email notification from SEF:

  • go to the Brexit portal and log in with your credentials
  • use the schedule icon to choose a date and time for your appointment

You can book an appointment at any centre where there is availability, even if this is outside your local area. However, SEF have confirmed that for those that currently see only the Lisbon SEF office as an option to make an appointment on the Brexit portal, if you cannot or do not wish to travel, you do not have to take action within the timeframe given in the email. SEF will send you a new email notification at a later date, offering you another opportunity to book, when there may be more local appointments available.
