Marines seize 8600 kilos of hashish off the Algarve coast

MARINES SEIZE 8600 KILOS OF HASHISH OFF THE ALGARVE COASTMaritime authorities intercepted two high-speed vessels in international waters south of the Algarve coast, suspected of carrying a narcotic products.

The Navy, the Air Force, the Maritime Authority and the Judiciary Police were all involved in the succesful interception, resulting in the arrest of eight men, aged between 34 and 40 years old,  and the seizure of 8.6 tonnes of hashish.

It all started with a “routine mission” of maritime patrol by the Air Force, in which “suspicious movements” of the vessels were monitored, after which an approach operation was carried out in international waters, about 70 nautical miles south of the Algarve region of Portugal.

The seized vessels were taken to the port of Faro and the detainees will be presented to the “competent judicial authority”, with the Judiciary Police continuing the investigation.
