The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere have warned of very cold temperatures for the next 48 hours, with clear skies; generally moderate wind from the northeast, between 20 and 30 km/h; morning mist or fog, formation of ice or frost and minimum temperatures below 5°C.
“We are going to be affected by an air mass with a polar origin. Temperatures will drop significantly, especially taking into account that last week we had above-average temperatures and therefore this abrupt drop will be felt more”, said meteorologist Jorge Ponte from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).
According to Jorge Ponte, the drop in temperature, the minimum and maximum, will also be felt due to the increase in wind intensity, especially in coastal areas and in the highlands.
“Some precipitation is also expected, but not very intense. This will form as snow in areas above 600 to 800 metres altitude from the end of today, Thursday. We are going to have minimum temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees in the Lisbon area and in the Algarve, from 2 to 4 degrees in Porto and negative temperatures in the interior north and center region of Portugal, for which cold weather warnings have already been issued ”, he said.
As from today, Thursday, there will be a sharp drop in temperature between 5 and 10 degrees compared to the previous days. We will have maximums of 12 to 14 degrees here in the Algarve, at least until Saturday.
