After fighting for several years for the legalization of postmortem insemination, Angela Ferreira is pregnant by her husband, Hugo, who died four years ago.
It is the first case of postmortem insemination in Portugal.
Before his death, Hugo left it in writing that he would like his wife to have a child with his semen.
The woman's battle began after her husband's death. At that time, Angela created a petition that was signed by more than 100,000 people.
After being approved by parliament in October 2020, the bill was passed to the President of the Republic. At that moment, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa accused the diploma of generating “legal uncertainties”, especially with regard to inheritances.
Eventually, after mich fighting, on November 5, 2021, the President of the Republic promulgated the diploma that allowed Angela to fulfill her late husband's dream.
“Finally I share the much desired news. It took years of struggle, the process was long and slow, but we finally did it! It is with enormous joy and with a full heart that I share that two hearts beat inside of me”, shared Angela on Instagram.
