Two earthquakes were recorded this morning, Friday, off the Algarve coast the first at Cabo São Vicente, Sagres, the second around half an hour later at Faro.
Did anyone feel it? The IPMA said that the earthquakes detected by the mainland's seismic network stations did not cause personal or material damage, according to the information available so far.
The first earthquake was recorded at 08:48 , with a magnitude 2.6 on the Richter scale and a depth of 28 kilometres SW of Cape São Vicente (Sagres).
The second earthquake was recorded at 09:15, with a magnitude 3.3 on the Richter scale, with a depth of 24 kilometres ,with the epicenter at sea about 45 kilometres south-southwest of Faro.
According to the Richter scale, earthquakes are classified according to their magnitude as micro (less than 2.0), very small (2.0-2.9), small (3.0-3.9), slight (4.0-4.9), moderate (5.0-5.9 ), strong (6.0-6.9), major (7.0-7.9), important (8.0-8.9), exceptional (9.0-9.9) and extreme (when greater than 10).
