A 50 year old woman was arrested yesterday, accused of spending more than €8000 on a bank card that she stole from an elderly nursing home patient.
Following an investigation that had been going on for about three months, concerning the theft of a debit card from a patient in a residential care home in Alcoutim, the police discovered “the identity of the thief, who had taken advantage of the victim's vulnerability due to her age, taken the card and the corresponding pin code", said the GNR in a statement.
The authorities found that the woman made several purchases and cash withdrawals, having spent more than €8000 with the stolen card.
Under 4 search warrants, two at the suspects home, one in a vehicle and another at the suspects workplace authorities seized a mobile phone, a speaker, a video game console, tickets to musical shows and various pieces of clothing and footwear from well known designer brands.
The suspect will appear in front of the Judicial Court of Vila Real de Santo António.
