Unusually early in the year, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), 9 municipalities in the Algarve are at a 'very high risk' of rural fire today.
Those areas said to be at a very high danger level are Aljezur, Lagos, Monchique, Portimão, Silves, Loulé, Tavira, São Brás de Alportel and Castro Marim.
There are also other areas of the country that the IPMA has placed in a 'high risk' category - Faro, Beja, Setúbal, Lisbon, Castelo Branco, Guarda, Viseu, Bragança and Vila Real.
Calculations are obtained from air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and amount of precipitation in the last 24 hours. The fire risk level determined by the IPMA has five levels, ranging from reduced to maximum.
The minimum temperatures today will fluctuate between 7 degrees Celsius (in Bragança) and 15 degrees (in Faro), with the maximums between 20 degrees (in Viana do Castelo) and 29 degrees (in Évora, Beja and Santarém).
