The measure for motorcycles to be inspected, regularly, just as other road vehicles are, has been planned since 2012, but the measure was never put in place. However, the new law will finally come in to place next year.
The new obligation to inspect motorcycles, tricycles and quadricycles with a cylinder capacity greater than 125 cm3, as well as trailers and semi-trailers, will come in to force on January 1, 2024.
Electric vehicles and agricultural vehicles are excluded, only road vehicles with a combustion engine (i.e. gasoline or diesel) will be subject to the mandatory IPO inspections.
New motorbikes, tricycles and quad bikes (which include quad bikes and small four-wheel vehicles) with more than 125 cc will have to go for their first inspection “five years after the date of the first registration”. Older vehicles will need to have their inspection in the month before the date of the first registration.
Ongoing, the motorcycle, tricycle and quadricycle inspection will be biennial.
