Judicial Police in the Algarve arrested a 27 year old man last week, suspected of raping a young woman in the early hours of October 20th, 2023.
“The crime was reported the police authorities by the victim herself, on October 20th 2023, with investigations only recenty leading to the “identification of the suspect and the collection of relevant evidence, with the arrest of the alleged perpetrator being carried out on July 3, after the suspect returned from an absence abroad”.
The investigation revealed that “the victim, a 19 year old woman, had been approached by an unknown man as she was leaving a popular fair in the area” and was “coerced into sexual acts, through threats using a sharp weapon”.
The sexual assault occurred “in a public space, in a secluded location, but the victim was unable to seek help from any passers-by.”
The detainee will at last be brought before the judicial authority for the application of coercive measures.
