Two French women, aged 30 and 35, were rescued late yesterday afternoon after a strong current near Cacela Velha, Vila Real de Santo António, left them in difficulties.
The women were rescued from the water by rescue jet ski, manned by members of the “SeaWatch” Project belonging to the National Maritime Authority (AMN). They had been swimming in an unguarded area of the sea, in the Cacela Velha bar of the Ria Formosa.
According to AMN, the elements of the “SeaWatch” Project who were on surveillance in the Cacela Velha area, when they detected “two people in difficulty in the water due to the strong current that was felt, and promptly rescued them to the shore from the bar.”
The women were “physically well, without needing medical assistance”.
The National Maritime Authority advises that bathing activities in this area should be avoided, due to the dangers it represents.
