After a recent inspection carried out by the Food and Economic Safety Authority (ASAE) at a nursing home in Faro, all food pereparation has been suspended.
Representatives from the ASAE were sent to check the conditions of the water supply to the care home, after they experienced an interruption of the water supply for human consumption from the public water network.
In a statement the ASAE say that the existence of several deposits containing water of unknown origin was found, "not being possible to fully determine its microbiological and physical-chemical characteristics".
Due to the lack of any guarantee regarding the potability of the water, the lack of an analytical bulletin, the non-existence of a disinfection system and, "since the non-contamination of food, surfaces, work equipment and the hands of handlers is not being ensured", the preparation of meals at the care home was immediately suspensed, "as a precautionary measure to protect the public health of users".
The suspension will remain in place until proof of the potability of the water and proof of connection to the public supply network, or installation of disinfection equipment, is presented.
