March 2025 tourist occupancy was down on last yearData from the Algarve Hotels and Tourist Enterprises Association (AHETA) for March this year shows that the room occupancy rate was 51.9%, a -3.4% drop compared to the same period last year.

In March, accommodation units in the Algarve recorded a 1.8pp drop in the room occupancy rate, compared to the same month in 2024. Compared to 2019, when Easter was celebrated on April 21st as it will be this year, room occupancy increased by 0.2% (+0.4%).

The markets that recorded the highest year-on-year growth were Canada (+1.0pp), the Netherlands (+0.8pp) and Germany (+0.4pp), while the British market recorded a year-on-year decline of 1.6% and the national market of 1.4%.

The average stay was 4.3 nights, 0.4 more than in March last year.

The longest average stays were in the Norwegian market, with 12.8 nights, the Swedish market, with 9.6 nights, and the Dutch market, with 9.0 nights.
