A car caught fire on the A22 this morning at around 10:00am, causing chaos near the junction to Boliqueime, in the Faro/Portimão direction.
A total of 17 firefighters and GNR personnel rushed to the scene. A helicopter was also called to the scene, as a precaution, to help fight the flames in case they spread to the surrounding area.
This situation caused traffic queue in the westerly direction, while the fire extinguishing operations were carried out.
Motorists were directed to follow the National Road EN270, where roadworks are also taking place.
The Via do Infante was however soon reopened on the affected section.
