The Judicial Police in Loulé have arrested a man in Vale Covo, Loulé for the alleged lighting of a forest fire, which occurred last week.
According to the PJ, the 29 year ols suspect started the fire during the night, in an isolated area, using fuel.
The high temperatures led to the "rapid spread of the fire, putting forests and homes at risk." The fire only escaped becoming out of control "due to the prompt intervention of the firefighters, who are based at this time of year in Barranco do Velho," nearby, says a statement from the PJ.
The detainee, already under investigation for the same type of crime elsewhere, will be brought before the first judicial interrogation to apply coercive measures.
The investigation is headed by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Loulé.
