A woman jumped from the 1st floor balcony of her home yesterday afternoon, to escape a knife attack by her partner, just as police arrived.
Following a report that domestic violence was taking place at a residence in Lagos, the Public Security Police arrived at the scene to find the man and his partner on the balcony of their home. He was "handling his partner, holding a large knife and making death threats," according to a statement from the PSP.
Given the gravity of the situation, police entered the residence, at which point the victim managed to free herself and jumped from the balcony onto the street, "falling violently to the ground." The 50 year old suspect followed, doing the the same and was immediately arrested.
The woman was taken to the hospital for tests, but is out of danger. The detainee, who received medical treatment for minor injuries, is now in custody awaiting trial, expected to appear before a judge today.
According to what the PSP was able to determine, there were no previous records of domestic violence between the couple.
