A 79-year-old man has been arrested by the National Republican Guard (GNR) in Tavira for cultivating cannabis, in an operation that led to the dismantling of a greenhouse found at his home.
According to the GNR’s Faro Territorial Command, the operation was carried out by the Criminal Investigation Unit (NIC) of Tavira on 4 November, following a three-month investigation. Officers executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence, where they discovered a fully equipped cannabis greenhouse in an outbuilding on the property.
During the search, police seized 21 cannabis plants in various stages of growth, a lighting grid, a CO2 regulator, several thermometers and humidity and pH controllers, a precision scale, multiple airtight bags, a mixing grinder, a surveillance camera, and various products used for growing and processing cannabis.
The suspect was held in custody at GNR facilities before appearing at the Faro Judicial Court on Wednesday, 5 November, to begin criminal proceedings.
