One person has died and three others have been injured, one of them seriously, following a collision between a car and a Tavira fire brigade ambulance on Monday morning, 23rd February, on the EN2 road in the Chelote area of Faro municipality.
A source from the Regional Command for Emergency and Civil Protection told journalists that the fatality was the patient being transported in the ambulance, a 96-year-old woman.
The two paramedics travelling in the vehicle were injured, one seriously, and were taken to Faro Hospital. The driver of the other car involved in the road traffic collision also suffered minor injuries.
The alert for the accident was raised at 9:15am this morning. At its peak, 23 emergency personnel supported by 12 vehicles were on the scene. Traffic on the road remained restricted throughout the day.
