Portugal’s Public Prosecution Service has charged a 49-year-old surf instructor with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a lifeguard near Praia da Falésia, in Albufeira, last October, the Faro District Prosecutor’s Office announced Wednesday, April 8th.
In a statement, prosecutors said the victim, a 35-year-old lifeguard, “was speaking with another person when the suspect arrived carrying a knife and began an argument”.
“During the confrontation, the victim attempted to push the suspect away with a kick, fearing he was about to be attacked. Despite this, the suspect struck twice with the knife, hitting the victim in the chest and abdomen,” the statement added.
Following the assault, prosecutors said, the suspect left the scene without offering assistance, despite the victim bleeding from his injuries.
The incident occurred in early October 2025 near a roundabout on Beco da Falésia, close to the pedestrian access leading to Praia da Falésia.
The suspect has been formally charged with attempted murder, possession of a prohibited weapon and failure to provide assistance.
The investigation is being conducted by the southern directorate of Portugal’s Judicial Police.
