A dispute between a landlord and tenant is believed to be at the centre of a suspected murder–suicide in Marinha Grande, Leiria district, where both men were found dead in the early hours of Friday, 10th April.
The property owner, aged 60, was fatally stabbed, while the 63-year-old tenant is believed to have thrown himself from a window or balcony after the attack. According to information obtained by the press from a source within the Public Security Police (PSP), the tenant’s body was discovered on a first-floor terrace of the building.
The landlord’s wife reportedly became concerned when her husband failed to return home at the expected time. She knew he had gone to the property to collect a set of keys and, alarmed by the delay, decided to go there herself.
Finding the door locked, she attempted to call her husband’s mobile phone. Although she could hear it ringing inside, no one answered. Growing suspicious, she contacted the PSP, who attended the scene.
Emergency services were also called but found the landlord already dead, lying in the kitchen amid significant blood loss. The discovery was made at around 2am.
Police teams remained at the property throughout the night, and the case is now under investigation by the Judicial Police (PJ).
