Smart sensors have been installed in Tavira in four parking bays reserved for people with reduced mobility, located near key public services, including the Álvaro de Campos Municipal Library, the local station of the Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP), the Segurança Social building, and the Tavira Council building, opposite Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD).
According to Tavira City Council, which is leading the initiative, the sensors allow authorities and users to monitor parking availability in real time, making it easier for drivers to locate vacant accessible spaces.
The information can be accessed online through the Programa Acessibilidades 360 website, and consulted via the Acessibilidade 360 mobile app, available for download on Google Play and the App Store.
The project forms part of an agreement signed between the municipality and the National Institute for Rehabilitation, introducing innovative solutions aimed at improving accessibility and urban mobility for people with relevant conditions.
With this initiative, the municipality says it is making a first step in reinforcing its commitment to inclusion and equal access, investing in technological solutions designed to help create a more accessible, efficient, and inclusive city for all residents and visitors.
