A 75-year-old man suffered serious injuries after falling into the water in the riverside area of Portimão, near the Naval Club, requiring the mobilisation of emergency assistance at around 7:00am today, 16th April.
Following an alert reporting that a man had fallen into the river, the National Maritime Authority dispatched a lifeboat from the Ferragudo Lifeboat Station, along with officers from the Portimão Local Command of the Maritime Police. Personnel from the Portimão Volunteer Fire Brigade and the National Institute for Medical Emergencies (INEM) were also mobilised.
“Upon arrival at the scene, it was confirmed that the victim had sustained serious injuries. He was immediately assisted by Maritime Police officers and crew members from the Ferragudo Lifeboat Station until the arrival of INEM and Volunteer Fire Brigade teams, who transported the man to hospital,” the Maritime Authority said in a statement.
The incident is being handled by the Portimão Local Command of the Maritime Police.
